A Minneola man was arrested after running from officers trying to apprehend him for the attempted theft of a $599 soundbar from Walmart.
Officers responded to Walmart, located at 2501 Citrus Blvd., for a retail theft involving 29-year-old Kordell Jacary Leon Oliver, around 7 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Loss prevention advised that he had come into the store at least two times before to steal merchandise, but the police reports were still pending. Nonetheless, his method was the same in each incident. He would select merchandise, either swap tags or remove the security devices, survey the exits for employees, and leave in a yellow Fiat, the report said.
An associate had been watching the security cameras that day when they spotted Oliver picking up items in the electronics department. He then moved to the clearance aisle, where he removed a security wrap from a $599 Sony soundbar.
