Border Patrol officer of 30 years unlawfully detains neighbor while not on duty

A Leesburg man working as a border patrol officer was arrested for battery after unlawfully detaining a neighbor out of concern for his ex-wife.

A Customs and Border Protection officer, identified as 62-year-old Jorge Luis Perez, reported that his neighbor contacted him and claimed to be in fear for her life around 7:25 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The dispatcher taking the call noted he was yelling at someone and telling them to get on the ground.

Deputies arrived on scene to find Perez kneeling on the ground while holding onto the homeowner. Perez’s left hand was on his right shoulder while his other hand gripped a holstered pistol on his right hip. At that point, law enforcement separated everyone for interviews, the report said…
