OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – Ocala officially opened its newly expanded skate park over the weekend, drawing thousands of visitors from across Florida for a day of skating, competitions and a headline appearance by skateboarding pioneer Rodney Mullen.
Crowds packed the park from late morning through the afternoon, with live music and food trucks on site as skaters took turns testing the new features and lining up to meet Mullen.
“I’ve been skating for about 20 years now,” Ron Ames, a DeLand resident, said. Ames said he grew up watching skate videos and called Mullen “a huge inspiration.”…
