K-9 team sniffs out methamphetamine during traffic stop in Lady Lake

A Lady Lake woman was arrested with methamphetamine when a K-9 unit sniffed out the drug during a traffic stop.

Officers stopped a black pickup truck pulling a trailer with no tag attached and the right taillight out in the area of County Road 25 and Griffin Avenue around 3:25 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Of the three occupants, 34-year-old Cheri Ann Poiret sat in the passenger seat.

After asking the driver for his license, registration and proof of insurance, Officer Ryan O’Neal and his K-9 partner Fast were asked to assist with the traffic stop. He and K-9 Fast swept the outside of the truck, and K-9 Fast positively alerted to the odor of drugs. The three occupants were then asked to step out of the vehicle so it could be searched, the report said.

The officer who escorted Poiret to the back of a patrol vehicle noticed she put something in her pocket as she exited the truck. When asked to show him what it was, he found a clear baggie with 1.87 grams of methamphetamine hidden in some cash, the report said…
