Hit-and-run suspect tracked down after damaging golf cart at town square

A hit-and-run suspect was tracked down after damaging a golf cart at a town square in The Villages.

Jodi Mientkiewicz, 52, of Florahome, was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

She was at the wheel of a black 2020 Ford Explorer at about 7 p.m. March 8 when she struck a legally parked golf cart at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A passenger got out of the golf cart to confront Mientkiewicz, who looked at the passenger, but Mientkiewicz “rapidly drove off leaving the area,” the report said. Witnesses were able to snap photos of the Ford Explorer and its license plate.

A deputy looked up the license plate number and found Mientkiewicz’s driver’s license photo. The passenger was able to pick Mientkiewicz out of a photo lineup…
