The stage has been set for a dramatic decision as officials in The Villages prepare to cast a key vote on anonymous complaints.
Community Development District 8 has been at the epicenter of the anonymous complaint controversy as the result of a years-long battle over a resident’s little white cross. Village of Tamarind Grove resident Wayne Anderson was targeted by an anonymous complaint in 2019 and went to court to fight to keep his little white cross. CDD 8 was ultimately forced to award him $70,000. The CDD 8 board also incurred $173,000 in legal fees in its battle with Anderson.
Over the past few years, several CDDs in The Villages have abandoned anonymous complaints, largely due to pressure from residents. CDD 8 officials steadfastly refused to take up the anonymous complaint debate while they remained mired in the little white cross legal war. However, with that legal battle finally behind them, CDD 8 supervisors have finally agreed to vote on the future of anonymous complaints in Buttonwood, Bridgeport at Creekside Landing, Bridgeport at Laurel Valley, Pennecamp, St. Charles, St. James and Tamarind Grove…
