Mother allegedly strangles adult son who refused to hand over game console

A Leesburg woman was arrested after allegedly strangling her adult son for refusing to give up his game console.

The 23-year-old son of 45-year-old Rosemary Vernon was playing video games when someone on voice game chat recited his address in Leesburg around 8:22 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Frightened, he blocked the unknown user and told Vernon what happened.

She became irate and tried to take his video game console from his room. He was able to get it back, and she tried to take it away again. She then scratched her son on his left arm and struck him on the right side of his face. She also grabbed his neck with one hand and choked him to the point he could not breathe until he pushed her back, the report said.

While speaking to law enforcement, they noticed he had several red scratch marks and broken skin on his left arm. He also had red marks on the left side of his neck, consistent with his statement, the report said…
