A Leesburg woman was arrested on drug charges for narcotics and paraphernalia found during a traffic stop.
A deputy saw a U-Haul truck run a stop sign while turning from Willow Drive onto South Street in Leesburg around 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. As the deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver, 36-year-old Katie Rene Oakley, made fervent movements while deciding to stop.
She ultimately pulled over in the middle of South Street, where she was unable to hand over a driver’s license. She denied there being anything illegal in the vehicle and consented to a search. After she stepped out of the vehicle, the deputy found a plastic straw and a wad of money clenched in her left hand, the report said.
The deputy proceeded to search the U-Haul, discovering two cloth purses on the right side of the driver’s seat. One of them contained a coin pouch with methamphetamine, while the other had a baggie of cocaine and two more baggies of methamphetamine.
