Suspicious person with vodka and drugs arrested at postal station in The Villages

A suspicious person with vodka and drugs was arrested at a postal station in The Villages.

Deputies went to the De La Vista Postal station at 500 N. Morse Boulevard shortly before 4 p.m. Monday where they found 44-year-old Michael Damerau slumped over on a bench, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He had a plastic bottle of vodka next to him. Deputies concluded that Damerau met the criteria under the Marchman Act for assessment for possible drug or alcohol abuse.

The Villages Public Safety Department responded to the scene, but when EMS personnel tried to place Damerau on a stretcher, he resisted their efforts and claimed he had “rights.” He slapped a deputy on the shoulder.

The New Jersey native was found to be in possession of marijuana and a blue glass smoking pipe.

He was transported to the UF Health Emergency Room Clinic at Brownwood. While he was in the ER, he used profane language and threatened to kill a lady deputy…
