Woman accused of scamming Ocala resident for $7,800 with text message scheme

A Volusia County woman was arrested this week after allegedly using a text message phishing scheme to steal more than $7,000 from an Ocala resident.

On October 14, 2025, DeLand Police Department (DPD) officers responded to a local Florida Credit Union branch in reference to fraudulent activity on a customer’s account. According to police, the credit union’s records showed that a woman – identified as Deltona resident Cherice Monique Reyes – had opened a new account at the branch four days earlier.

The credit union informed DeLand police that a total of $7,800 was deposited into Reyes’ account within two days of it being opened. These funds had reportedly been transferred without authorization from the Ocala victim’s bank account…
