Woman arrested after puppy rescued from vehicle in 90-degree heat

Lady Lake Police officers arrested a Crestview woman on charges of animal cruelty after they rescued a puppy left inside her hot vehicle.

Law enforcement responded to the Five Below parking lot at Lady Lake Crossing around 2:25 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a dog inside a car with the windows barely cracked. Temperatures outside exceeded 92 degrees, and officers saw the black puppy panting heavily and showing signs of distress inside 26-year-old Yeneese Mystic Morejon’s car.

Officers Jeffrey Burns and Michael Tisdell found the dog inside the car parked in direct sunlight without shade. The puppy’s tongue was extended, and she was crying and scratching at the windows in an attempt to escape. Officers determined the vehicle was not running, and the interior was extremely hot. They believed the dog was locked in the parked car for at least 40 minutes.
