A woman who previously dodged jail time for stealing a medical van from a hospital in The Villages is back behind bars after throwing a tantrum, breaking a computer, and spitting on a nurse at the exact same facility.
The chaotic scene unfolded Monday morning at UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital, where 60-year-old Margaret Mary Maitski of Lady Lake had initially checked herself in as a patient.
According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Maitski was placed under a Baker Act by an attending physician. Upset by the doctor’s decision, she emerged from her hospital room screaming and demanding to be released.
During her outburst at the nurses’ station, Maitski aggressively struck an HP computer monitor, knocking it over and shattering the screen. As medical staff rushed in to intervene, she spit directly on a registered nurse. Hospital personnel were ultimately forced to physically restrain Maitski to her bed and sedate her until law enforcement arrived…
