Marion County animal shelter opens with hundreds of pets ready for adoption

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) -The new Marion County Animal Shelter is now open, with almost 300 dogs and 200 cats ready for adoption.

The $28 million shelter sits on 20 acres of donated land on West Highway 40. The facility features four air-conditioned kennel areas and multiple cat rooms.

“The last decade, we’ve gone over multiple sites, multiple designs, and we ended up falling on an absolute beautiful location,” said Jared Goodspeed, director of facilities management for Marion County…
