Oklahoma City Animal Welfare asks community to choose a name for new shelter sculpture

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is asking the community to help name a dog sculpture that will be installed at a new shelter in the city.

The sculpture will be installed outside the new MAPS 4-funded Oklahoma McCune Animal Welfare Center. The new $42 million center is under construction behind the current shelter, according to the city.

Designed by artist Olga Ziemska, the statue will stand 14 feet tall and 20 feet long and will be lit up at night. The city said the windblown artwork is designed to welcome everyone who visits the new center.

“Every pet deserves a name, and that includes the future art sculpture that will be installed at the new shelter,” OKC Animal Welfare said. “Let’s come together and choose a name that will welcome visitors. celebrate our community, and become part of the shelter’s story for years to come.”…
