OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City has opened the city’s first ever double roundabout, which is nicknamed “The Peanut,” and located at Northwest 10th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and Virginia Avenue.
A traditional roundabout has multiple entry points leading into a circular roadway that prevents vehicle stoppage and promotes flow of traffic. A double roundabout is a traffic feature in which one roundabout leads into another.
In a statement on the city website, Oklahoma City officials claimed this feature will help “slow vehicle speeds, decrease the number of conflict points found at traditional signalized intersections and create a safer, more efficient experience for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.”
