OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Days before the Oklahoma County Jail Trust and the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office are scheduled for a court hearing to decide who will be responsible for inmate transports, the jail trust filed a motion arguing that the sheriff’s office is breaking the law.
The motion from the jail trust comes after attorneys with the sheriff’s office filed an injunction requesting that the court require the jail trust to pay for the transports they’ve made since the court appointed them to do so.
“It is the constitutional obligation of the sheriff to, to transport the inmates. But, as I’m told, that makes it illegal for him to invoice us because it is his legal responsibility,” Jim Holman, the Chairman of the Oklahoma County Jail Trust, said.
