Driver Killed as Car Slams Into Tree, Bursts Into Flames in Moore

A driver was killed early Saturday when their car struck a tree and burst into flames near South Broadway Avenue and Bryant Avenue in Moore, Oklahoma. Moore police and firefighters responded to the fire shortly after 1 a.m. following a single-vehicle crash, and the driver was found dead inside the vehicle once flames were extinguished.

According to KOCO, a preliminary investigation indicates the driver hit a tree before the vehicle came to a stop. Firefighters were able to put out the flames, but the driver did not survive. Police have not released any information about the driver, including their identity, as the investigation continues.

Cause of the Crash Still Unclear

The circumstances that led up to the crash remain under investigation, and authorities have not determined what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. It is not yet known whether speed, impairment, or a mechanical issue played any role in the wreck or the fire that followed. Jonathan Greco, a digital media manager, is credited with the report detailing what little is confirmed so far.

The crash adds to a string of recent fatal wrecks across the Oklahoma City metro this month. Just days earlier, a motorcycle-semi collision shut down lanes of I-35 in Moore after a fatal crash, and a man died in a fiery single-vehicle wreck on the Memorial Road Bridge in northwest Oklahoma City. A February crash on I-40 near Sayre also ended in a deadly fire that shut down eastbound lanes for hours.

Cleveland County, which includes Moore, has logged 1,053 fatal traffic collisions since 1975, ranking third among Oklahoma’s 77 counties for overall fatal crash impact behind Oklahoma and Tulsa counties, according to historical crash records compiled by Roadway.report. That history prompted the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners to approve an Oklahoma Highway Safety Office application last October for fiscal year 2026 funding more than 575 overtime hours dedicated to high-visibility enforcement targeting impaired driving and severe crashes…
