A late-night McDonald’s run took an awkward turn for Oklahoma Secretary of State Ben Lepak on August 14, when Edmond police found him standing near the drive-thru window of a restaurant on North Kelly Avenue, holding a bag of food and appearing heavily intoxicated.
Officers had been called after reports of a man lingering around the drive-thru who appeared impaired. Bodycam footage shows Lepak struggling to speak clearly, retrieve his identification, and maintain a coherent conversation. Police also reported smelling alcohol on his breath.
Lepak told officers he had driven to McDonald’s after attending a church gathering for his children. He described the meal as his “cheat night” and initially downplayed how much he had consumed.
Police Question His Condition
