Severe storms possible Tuesday, flooding could follow Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Monday will be the last boring day in the forecast for a while, with highs in the 90s and sunny skies. Tuesday will start our pattern change, with a dryline in the panhandles initiating strong to severe storms Tuesday afternoon into the evening. We have a Weather Warn Day for Tuesday since these storms could produce gusty winds up to 70 mph, quarter size hail, and a few tornadoes can’t be ruled out. The SPC has already issued a slight risk for severe weather across the panhandles, SW Kansas, and Western to Northwestern Oklahoma.

On Wednesday, we’ll get the first taste of our cold front moving in, but it’s forecast to stall out across the state late Wednesday into Thursday. As the front stalls out and stops, storms will likely sit over the front and produce locally high rainfall amounts that could lead to areas of localized flooding. Due to this risk of flooding, we will have a second Weather Warn Day Wednesday. Some areas could see up to 3.5″ of rain, and the WPC has issued excessive rainfall outlooks for Tuesday through Thursday.
