The University of Oklahoma has placed its Sigma Nu fraternity chapter on disciplinary probation after finding the group responsible for hazing tied to a system called BASICS, which officials described as structured personal servitude and coerced domestic labor carried out for active members. The sanctions, finalized this week, mark the third Greek organization at OU to face discipline for hazing-related conduct in 2026 alone.
According to KOCO, the hazing was reported to university officials on September 21, prompting OU to open a conduct process the following day. That process wrapped up on Wednesday, October 14, resulting in a set of sanctions against the Delta Epsilon chapter of Sigma Nu, which was originally chartered at OU in 1909 and re-established on the Norman campus in 2012, per the University of Oklahoma Interfraternity Council.
University officials found the chapter responsible for facilitating BASICS, which the report describes as a coerced labor arrangement involving domestic labor for active members. As a result, Sigma Nu must now complete a hazing education workshop, submit a revised new member education plan, hold an officer transition meeting, and serve a period of disciplinary probation, the station’s report states.
