Customers frustrated after getting Christmas gift cards promoted by now-closed butcher shop

EDMOND, Okla. ( KFOR ) – A handful of former customers at The Meat House in Edmond say they’re frustrated after buying or receiving a gift card that they or their loved ones didn’t have enough time to spend.

“I find it real hard to understand why they were selling gift cards, knowing full well that they were going to close,” said Richard Schneider. “Anger, frustration just generally come to mind.”

Schneider’s son bought him a $75 gift card for the butcher shop on W. Danforth Road in Edmond on Dec. 23 as a Christmas gift.

Meanwhile, Pat Peles told KFOR she got four of her coworkers gift cards from there for $50 each.

“A total amount of $200,” said Peles. “There was one person working there. [They gave] no indication that they were going to be going out of business.”

Peles said after the holidays, she was approached by one of her coworkers.

“And he said, did you know The Meat House was closing? And I was like, ‘no,’” said Peles. “And he said that he went by there and the doors were closed and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”
