‘It’s quite a violation of that trust,’ a sheriff’s office employee said
Oklahoma police obtained a warrant for an elementary school teacher’s arrest after her coworkers noticed that she “smelled of alcohol,” on Wednesday morning.
Kelly Bacot is a second-grade teacher at Nicoma Park Elementary School in the small town of Choctaw. Her colleagues contacted the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office when they observed unusual behavior this week.
“A couple of teachers had noticed this particular teacher might have been acting a little bit drunk and smelled of alcohol,” Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office public information office Aaron Brilbeck told KFOR .
“So, our deputies went out and checked it out and determined that she had been drinking.”
The school district also confirmed that there was “a suspicion of a teacher being under the influence of alcohol.”
“As soon as officials were made aware the teacher was removed from the classroom, and law enforcement was notified,” the district told KFOR. “It was determined the teacher was unfit for duty due to the reasonable suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol.”
