Tenants upset after dozens of cars towed from apartment complex

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – People living at one apartment complex say they’re upset after complex management had dozens of their cars towed Thursday.

At 5:30 p.m. that day, a close parking spot is usually a hot commodity at Highland Pointe apartments.

“Everybody’s off work,” Highland Pointe resident Kirsten Griffey said. “It’s usually really full.”

But not on Thursday.

“There’s a lot of cars missing,” Griffey said.

Griffey watched it all happen Thursday morning.

Expired tags on Oklahoma roadways may lead to problems for drivers

“They were just taking cars left and right, leaving the parking lot empty,” she said.

Griffey says her car is one of 30 cars Highland Pointe management told her they had towed, because of registration issues.

She admits the tag on her car expired last month, and with money tight, she needed to wait until she and her boyfriend got their next paycheck to get it taken care of.

Plus, the state allows a 30-day grace period on tag renewals, and Thursday was only the first day of the new month.
