‘I just thought that they forgot’: Mother looks for closure three years after son’s shooting death

OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – While the station often reports on gun violence crimes in real-time, there is not always an opportunity to share the other side: the impact on the victim’s family.

Janouski Wells was found shot to death in his apartment on February 1, 2021 by three young men his family said he considered friends.

For the first time, KFOR is hearing from the young man’s mother as she searches for closure.

“I just thought that they forgot about my child,” said Breanna Wells.

At 22, Janouski Wells had been in trouble before, but his mother said he was getting his life back on track.

“He was loving, he was so funny…honest. Despite everything else he was a very good child,” said Ms. Wells.

“I’m grateful that God got me here to tell my son’s story, because who else gonna tell it,” she added.

But, those fond memories might be overshadowed by the details surrounding his death.

In 2021, so-called friends broke into Janouski’s home and shot him several times.
