Oklahoma City Street crews are readying for possible snow and ice in Central Oklahoma on Sunday and Monday. Trucks with plows and salt spreaders are ready to clear the city’s snow routes if needed. Crews will work 12-hour shifts until the routes are clear. The snow route map is available at okc.gov/winter. Residents should turn off sprinklers when temperatures fall below freezing to avoid ice on sidewalks and streets.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management has shared preparation tips for the expected winter weather. These include familiarizing yourself with local snow routes, having a supply of non-perishable food and water, keeping warm clothing and boots available, and ensuring pets are safe. They also suggest keeping cellphones charged and letting faucets drip if temperatures stay below freezing for an extended period.
Residents are urged to be cautious when driving, particularly over bridges and overpasses. Drivers should slow down on snow or ice, give salt trucks space, leave early, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Other suggestions include steering and braking slowly, keeping warm clothes in the car, clearing snow and ice from vehicles before driving, and having a plan in case of an accident.
