Victim of 2017 shooting in Oklahoma City dies six years later, officials rule homicide

After an Oklahoma City gunshot victim died more than six years after the incident, the man charged in the shooting could also now be charged with homicide, officials say.

In August 2017, police found Andre Jones in critical condition with a gunshot wound in a car in the 700 block of NW 91. A woman in the car was also shot.

The woman was taken to OU Medical Center and treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police reported. Jones was also hospitalized at OU Medical Center.

Six years later, police said Andre Jones, 48, died Jan. 11.

The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that Jones died as a result of the shooting, therefore his death was ruled a homicide.

Jeffrey Garcia, 32, was sentenced to prison for the shooting.

The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether additional charges will be filed against Garcia.
