What’s next in OKC restaurants? In-N-Out looking, Steak ‘n Shake coming back?

What a tasty retail property outlook for OKC.

“Restaurants continue to be the most aggressive users in the market and are paying top dollar rates to try to spur new construction,” OKC’s NAI Sullivan group said in its midyear retail market report by managing broker-owner David Hartnack.

He pointed to two recent top-dollar deals:

Noodles & Dumplings , 13900 N May, leased for $39 per square foot per year; and Signature Grill , a second location at 217 E Campbell St. in Edmond, leased for $35 per square foot per year — both more than double the average rate of $16.16 per square foot.

Here’s what’s cooking in likely new chain restaurants in OKC

Here’s what could be next on the menu for OKC, according to NAI Sullivan Group. Each has toured the metro area recently looking for sites.

  • Bojangles . Finally? Bojangles and Oklahoma City-based Love’s announced a national franchise agreement five years ago that would have put the chicken-and-biscuit joints inside 40 Love’s Travel Stops, including some locations in Oklahoma. It didn’t happen , and no one explained why. The nearest Bojangles to OKC is 200 miles south in Frisco, Texas.
  • Pizza Ranch . “From humble beginnings in a small Iowa town to 200-plus restaurant locations across the Midwest, Pizza Ranch has grown with loyal customers and hardworking franchise owners,” the company says online. The nearest one to Oklahoma City now is 120 miles north in Arkansas City, Kansas.
  • Steak ‘n Shake . This would be a return to the metro area. A few years ago, there was one each in OKC, Edmond and Midwest City. Franchisees come and franchisees go. The nearest one now is 100 miles northeast in Broken Arrow.
  • In-and-Out Burger . Love it or dismiss it , the California-based chain is looking.
