OKCPS students head back to school Tuesday

OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – Enthusiasm was buzzing through the halls at Ridgeview Elementary School Tuesday morning.

“I’m really glad to be back this year. I feel like we’re going to get a lot accomplished this year,” said Angela Chamberlain, a family advocate at Ridgeview Elementary.

It was the first day of school for Oklahoma City Public Schools.

The day started at the OKCPS Operations Center, where drivers were up well before the sun.

“We’ve had drivers here since 4:30 this morning and just to get ready, make sure everything’s ready to go,” said Scott Lane, OKCPS Director of Transportation.

It was also the first school day of Dr. Jamie Polk’s first year as the district’s superintendent. One accomplishment on her mind is implementing the “team of teams” concept.

“Where one does not have to know it all. You just tap the right person and get them to the table and allow their expertise to be part of the conversation. That’s how we become one voice,” said Dr. Polk.
