Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. customers received the highest rate increase in 20 years last month, and with temperatures still high, your bill was likely already going to see a boost this summer.
Several programs throughout Oklahoma City try to make it easier for households to pay their gas and electric bills in a moment of need.
Here’s a look at some resources available to OKC residents:
Why are my bills going up?
This summer, utility organizations like OG&E have raised their rates for users while the city of Oklahoma City has increased water rates for the third year in a row.
OG&E’s increase was initially proposed to be an increase of 13.85%, or $19.02 on the average monthly residential bill. However, due to a settlement with all parties except AARP, the utility pivoted to a 6.6% increase or $9.58 to the average residential user.
How can I lower my gas or electric bill?
If budgeting your bill is getting difficult due to the rise and fall of the prices each month, OG&E provides services specifically aimed at averaging your monthly bill, shifting summer usage to save during the season as well as renewable energy sourcing.
