Paul Finebaum Reveals Why One Major Coach Could Be On The Hot Seat Soon

Year 1 as the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners couldn’t have gone worse for Brent Venables. Oklahoma went 6-7, marking its first losing season in 24 years.

In Year 2, Oklahoma showed significant improvement, finishing with a 10-3 record in its final season in the Big 12. Although Oklahoma has started this season with a 3-0 record, the team’s performance has been less than impressive. Oklahoma narrowly won consecutive games against Houston and Tulane. Now, Oklahoma is getting ready to take on the Tennessee Volunteers, who are ranked in the top six nationally.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum noted on his show that if the Sooners were to achieve a 7-5 record or worse this season, Venables could be in a precarious position.

“If they end up 7-5, that is not going to play well with that fan base,” Finebaum said. “This is a program that’s used to championships and playing for titles. They’re not going to be happy with two bad seasons out of three. Even with the transition.”
