Michael Hawkins Jr. replaced Jackson Arnold in the second quarter. He would go on and finish the game for the Sooners. Afterwards, he talked about his performance.

You settled in there pretty quickly. What was your feeling after the game?

Michael: I think the big thing is trying to get comfortable with the system. It’s the first time you’re getting in, just trying to build drives and put points on the board.

Coach Venables said in the postgame that this is now a quarterback competition. What’s your mindset going into that and how do you compete in that competition?

Michael: It’s nothing different. Just keeping your head down and going to work every week. Not a big change in the week with the offense, just leading as a quarterback and getting the team around you.

How comfortable did you feel with the offense when you were inserted into the game?

Michael: I felt pretty comfortable, just getting those drives going and then finally getting some points on the board. Just capitalizing on all of it so I felt pretty comfortable.
