Blockbuster exhibit ‘Edith Head: Hollywood’s Costume Designer’ brings 45,000 visitors to OKC

Even more than four decades after her death, cinema icon Edith Head’s sense of style remains keen enough to appeal to legions of film fans.

Over three months, more than than 45,000 people visited the Oklahoma City Museum of Art during the run of its exhibition “Edith Head: Hollywood’s Costume Designer,” a sprawling retrospective of the beloved film industry icon that proved a true blockbuster.

“We were very grateful for the incredible community support we received throughout the Edith Head exhibition. From our opening events in June through the end of September, we saw consistently high and enthusiastic visitorship, both for the exhibition and for the corresponding programs, especially for the Edith Head film series ,” museum President and CEO Michael J. Anderson told The Oklahoman.

During the exhibit’s run, visitors flocked to the downtown OKC museum from 49 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, plus eight countries outside the United States.

Organized by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, “Edith Head: Hollywood’s Costume Designer ” was the third most attended exhibit for the venerable museum in the past 10 years, behind the traveling shows ” Van Gogh, Monet, Degas ” in 2019 and “Matisse in His Time” in 2016.
