Asian community calling for change after use of force incident with OKCPD officer

OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – Oklahoma City’s Asian community said they have asked for changes to the Oklahoma City Police Department following the release of video showing use of force against a 71-year-old Vietnamese man.

“We were forewarned it would be significant,” said Thuan Nguyen, president-elect for Vietnamese American Communities of Oklahoma.

OKCPD said it was investigating the October 27 incident after an officer pulled over Lich Vu for a traffic stop. The officer said in body camera video that he pulled Vu over for an illegal U-turn on NW 39th Expressway.

The department released body camera video and store surveillance video on Friday. The officer, who has not been named, can be seen asking Vu to sign a ticket. When Vu refused, the officer told Vu, “If you don’t sign this, you go to jail.”

The officer then called Vu “ridiculous.”

Minutes later, Vu can be seen placing his hand on the officer’s arm. In the video, Vu can be seen pointing a finger at the officer and telling him to “shhh.”
