(NEXSTAR) – A tax filing extension for residents of two dozen states affected by disasters is coming to an end in 2025, the IRS reminded taxpayers Friday.
Those who received a grace period to file their 2023 returns will have to file by early February or May, depending on where they live.
Fourteen states, along with two territories, have until Feb. 3, 2025 to file their returns. The deadline applies to all of Louisiana and Vermont, all of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and parts of Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas and Washington state.
Social Security retirement age set to change in 2025
Taxpayers in the entire states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina will have until May 1, 2025 to file their 2023 returns. The deadline also affects parts of Alaska, New Mexico, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
For these taxpayers, May 1 will also be the deadline for filing their 2024 returns and paying any taxes owed. See the IRS website for more state-by-state information.
