Oklahoma County Jail employee fired, charged after fight leads to inmate death

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An Oklahoma County Detention Center employee has been fired and arrested for negligence after a fight at the jail led to the death of an inmate on Friday.

OCDC officials say now-former employee Debbie Brinkley, 62, failed to act during a fight between inmates Clinton Pike and Orenzo Byrd that led to Pike’s death on Friday, April 25.

During the altercation between Pike and Byrd, a third inmate reportedly made four phone calls to the camera operations center reporting sounds of an assault.

Binkley only answered two of the four phone calls, according to jail officials, and failed to notify security staff or supervisors on both occasions to intervene. Pike, who was identified as the victim in the assault, was not discovered until 20 minutes after the final phone call during routine sight checks, and later died at the hospital.

Binkley, who was hired in September 2023, was fired by the OCDC and charged with willful neglect to perform duty as a result of the incident…
