Investigation underway following Oklahoma County Jail inmate death

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — An investigation is underway after the death of a 26-year-old Oklahoma County Detention Center inmate on Monday evening.

OCDC officials say inmate Mario Mason, 26, was found unresponsive by a detention officer during a welfare check at around 5:37 p.m. on Monday. Mason was taken to the hospital after staff attempted lifesaving measures, and was pronounced dead at around 6:46 p.m.

Mason was reportedly awaiting transfer to the Oklahoma Department of Correction after being sentenced to life in prison for first degree murder on April 24. He was first booked into the jail on May 23, 2024.
