Oklahoma notches big recruiting win after a week of losses

After several recent swing and misses, the Oklahoma Sooners finally hit a home run on the recruiting trail.

Offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt announced during a ceremony on Saturday that he committed to the Sooners. The news of Schmitt’s commitment came at the end of a week during which OU missed out on a handful of targets the Sooners had closed in on.

Schmitt was a massive win at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds. He’s a four-star offensive lineman in the 2026 class out of Windsor High School in Colorado. OU beat out in-state Colorado and SEC rival Alabama for the big win. Schmitt also had a lengthy list of other offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kansas State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington, Washington State, Wisconsin and more.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Schmitt is the No. 31 interior offensive lineman in the class and top overall prospect in the state of Colorado. 247Sports is the only major recruiting service that has given Schmitt three stars, while Rivals and On3 list him as a four-star recruit.
