New STEM center for Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) —A new addition for Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma at Camp Trivera now allows girls to learn all about STEM programs. It’s also the first council in the nation to get a Cal Ripken Sr. STEM Center.

Devon Energy partnered with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation to provide young girls access to STEM activities and foster the curiosity from a young age.

“Really, we want to capture their attention by the 5th grade and then we want to keep sustaining it. Stem careers are so vital to our industry, to our economy, there’s so much to do there, so much variety,” said Catherine Oster, the Mid-continent Asset Manager at Devon Energy.

From learning how to code, to playing with robots, the center helps shape the minds of every Girl Scout who walks through the doors.

“During our sports and games week, girls will race to the finish line using the “Sphero Bolts”, they will learn foundational properties of physics using the “STEM Pathway Blocks”, they’ll even analyze three different kinds of code using the “Ozobot Evo” classroom set,” said Holly York, the STEAM Specialist at Camp Trivera…
