OKLAHOMA CITY- (KOKH) — The Oklahoma City Council last week gave the police department the green light to use artificial intelligence facial comparison software to help them in some investigations.
“It’s important to reassure the public that this isn’t surveillance. This is only ledes provided on after-the-fact crimes. A crime has to have been committed, we have to have a picture of someone that we don’t know who they are,” said Gary Knight, Public Information Officer, for the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The department insisted that the new AI technology they’ll have access to will be used responsibly. They said it’ll be helpful when they’re trying to find people who’ve been caught on camera, like people that the department’s Facebook page posted about who allegedly cashed fraudulent checks last month. It won’t only be used to catch criminals though…
