Guatemalan National Charged with Assaulting Federal Officer After Traffic Stop Evasion in Oklahoma City

Julio Giron-Ramirez, a 26-year-old Guatemalan national, is facing federal charges for allegedly assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma, which was reported by justice.gov, the incident occurred on August 3, when Giron-Ramirez reportedly evaded a traffic stop and subsequently rammed his vehicle into an ICE officer’s car.

Detailed in an affidavit supporting his criminal complaint, ICE agents attempted to stop Giron-Ramirez’s vehicle as part of an enforcement operation. Defying the orders, he chose to instead rapidly flee, sparking a chase that ended with his vehicle making a deliberate collision with an ICE vehicle. After abandoning his car, Giron-Ramirez continued to attempt to flee on foot before being apprehended by law enforcement. The chase and subsequent arrest were part of a broader “Operation Take Back America” initiative.

The charge lodged against Giron-Ramirez is serious; if convicted, he could face up to two decades in federal prison and a potential fine of a quarter-million dollars.
