OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Concerns are mounting after new data shows the Oklahoma County Detention Center (OCDC) is keeping inmates behind bars long after judges ordered them released.The issue sparked a tense exchange between jail leaders and one board member during Monday’s Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Authority (OCCJA) meeting.
Jail leaders told board members staffing shortages are to blame for the delays.
They said inmates with minor charges are waiting an average of two and a half days to be released, even after a judge approves their bond.

One board member made clear that the excuse did not sit well with him.“And the reason, so everybody knows why I’m pressing this, is because 43 percent of the population demographics in the Oklahoma County Detention Center are black folks,” OCCJA board member Derrick Scobey said during the meeting. “Last I checked, I’m black.
