Company claims hackers stole $3 million from metro HOA accounts

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An alleged hacking scheme in the metro has left nearly a dozen Oklahoma homeowner associations out millions of dollars. The FBI is now investigating the case.

According to the initial report, made through the Oklahoma City Police Department, the hack started with text messages received by the owner of Hoppis Real Estate Services. The company managed the HOA accounts.

The owner, Sheila Brown, filed the report with the police in July. In the report, she said she started receiving text messages on July 2. She said the messages were asking her to approve or deny changes to her account. Documents stated that the text messages started coming multiple times over the next few days. Brown told police that was when she started receiving non-stop spam calls.
