On Saturday, September 6, firefighters Mason Helvey and Dalton Alexander of the Cordell Fire Department, along with Enedino Mendoza of the Burns Flat Fire Department, participated in the 14th Annual OKC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Leadership Square and Oklahoma Tower in Oklahoma City. The event challenges participants to climb the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center towers, while wearing their full firefighting gear or duty uniforms. The climb serves as a tribute to the 343 FDNY firefighters, 37 PAPD officers, 23 NYPD officers, eight EMS workers, and one NYFP firefighter who gave their lives in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.
Each climber carried a tag with the name of a fallen hero. At the end of the climb, participants placed their tags on a memorial board and rang a bell, a symbolic gesture honoring those who answered their final call on 9/11.
Helvey, Alexander, and Mendoza joined hundreds of first responders and civilians united by the event’s mission to “Never Forget.” Proceeds from the climb benefit the Oklahoma Firefighters Foundation, which provides ongoing support to firefighters and their families across the state…
