Look out – baby fever in Oklahoma!
The Oklahoma City Zoo is celebrating another birth this year. On Monday, September 8, an infant Francois langur monkey was born at the OKC Zoo. This particular birth is a special one for the endangered species since not many are left in the wild.
Although this baby is only a week old, he is already out with the family and visitors can see him with the rest of his family at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens’ Sanctuary Asia habitat.

This year, the OKC Zoo has seen a few other births of other endangered species, such as:
- Four lesser hedgehog tenrecs born on May 23, 2025.
- Kidogo (key-doh-goh): Female African bat-eared fox born June 6, 2025.
- Xerxes: First male Asian elephant calf born in the Zoo’s history. He was born on June 17, 2025.
- Atlas: Male Plains zebra born on August 9, 2025
- Unnamed Okapi calf (born 9/1): Female Okapi calf born August 24, 2025.
- Celebrated the birth of five Volcán Alcedo giant tortoises, species of Galapagos tortoises, July of 2024. “They are thriving and growing,” OKC Zoo Director of Public Relations, Candice Rennels, said.
They are also expecting another birth this September from the giraffe, Julu, with her third calf.

Each birth the OKC Zoois another successful knotch in the conservation effort’s belt, so to speak. Several of the species at the OKC Zoo are endangered or have incredibly low populations in the wild, like the Francois langur monkeys…
