Playground renovation announced for Will Rogers Elementary special needs students

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. (KOKH) — Parents of students at Will Rogers Elementary School are celebrating the announcement of a playground renovation that will accommodate special needs students. The news comes after a long-standing effort led by former Principal Anissa Angier-Dunn, who advocated for an ADA-compliant playground.

Annaciara Ghajar, a mother of a student with autism, emphasized the importance of inclusivity, saying, “Belonging means that every child whether they walk, or wheel, or gate train into school, enters into a building or a playground that allows them to safely learn.”

The decision to fund the renovation using existing bond funds was shared by the interim principal following a PTO meeting. Allison Jennings, PTO president, expressed excitement, stating, “We are absolutely thrilled that the kids at our school are going to be able to have the things needed provided for them, and particularly for the kids in that program that need ADA-compliant equipment.”…
