New ‘Howdy’ Mural at Convention Center Celebrates Oklahoma City’s Culture and Welcomes Residents

A new mural titled ‘Howdy’ is now on display at the Oklahoma City Convention Center at 100 Mick Cornett Dr. The mural was created by local artist Nick Bayer and was unveiled in collaboration with City of OKC officials. It measures 17 by 20 feet and features 16 repeating images, including the state flower and Route 66. The images are arranged in a radial pattern inspired by Oklahoma windmills and Western wear embroidery.

Bayer stated that ‘Howdy’ is a common Oklahoma greeting and represents the state’s friendly atmosphere. He said the mural is intended to welcome both visitors and local residents. The design highlights elements of Oklahoma’s cultural heritage.

The project received funding from Oklahoma City’s 1% for Arts program, which is part of the MAPS 3 initiative. This program allocates 1% of construction budgets for public art in city buildings, parks, and trails. Residents participate in the selection process…
