Oklahoma City Convention Center Greets Visitors with Welcoming “Howdy” Mural by Local Artist Nick Bayer

A new mural titled “Howdy” now welcomes visitors at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. Created by local artist Nick Bayer, the 17-by-20-foot artwork is displayed in the first-floor lobby and features 16 repeating Oklahoma symbols, including the state flower and Route 66, according to a City of Oklahoma announcement.

The design draws inspiration from Oklahoma windmills and Western wear embroidery, representing the state’s heritage and hospitality. As per the same announcement, Bayer described the mural as a visual greeting to visitors, reflecting the friendly spirit associated with the word “Howdy.”

The mural was funded through the City of Oklahoma City’s 1% for Arts program, part of the voter-approved MAPS 3 project for the Convention Center. Bayer, who holds degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma and Kansas State University, has completed multiple public art projects for the city and leads Createco Studios…
