Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board names new executive director

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has selected one of its own to lead the agency into its next chapter.

During Wednesday’s board meeting, members voted to promote General Counsel Kyle Counts as the new executive director.

He will officially take over the role Dec. 1, filling the position left by Tom Bates, who is retiring after five years in the position.

Before joining the Pardon and Parole Board, Counts worked for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma from 2014 to 2020, where he handled criminal defense cases in Oklahoma City’s municipal courts, helping indigent offenders resolve outstanding warrants, fines, and costs…
