As winter approaches in Oklahoma City, emergency overnight shelters are increasing their capacity. Nearly 400 additional spaces will be available for individuals and families. The goal is to provide shelter when temperatures drop below freezing. Jamie Caves, Strategy Implementation Manager for the Key to Home Partnership, said it is important to offer a warm place to stay during cold weather.
Several organizations are involved in this effort. The Homeless Alliance, City Rescue Mission, City Care, Sisu Youth Services, and Pivot are adding overflow beds to their regular capacity. These shelters are located in different parts of the city and serve various groups, including youth and families. The Homeless Alliance at 1601 NW 4th St. is allowing companion animals and adding 300 extra beds.
EMBARK is offering free transportation to shelters on certain bus routes. A special winter shuttle will run on November 9 and 10 to help people reach shelters during the coldest nights…
