Sooners fans are dreading the broadcast crew Oklahoma-Alabama was handed

Oklahoma fans were already upset about the time slot ESPN gave a marquee game between the No. 11 Sooners and No. 4 Alabama for Saturday, but now, Sooner Nation will also have to spend its afternoon listening to the worst broadcast crew possible for this particular matchup.

Instead of being at primetime, the Sooners will face the Crimson Tide at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday in Tuscaloosa, and with Texas-Georgia getting ESPN’s A Team that night, OU was dealt Sean McDonough doing play-by-play, Greg McElroy as analyst and Molly McGrath on the sidelines.

There was an immediate issue about this crew with McElroy in the booth. Before his broadcast career, McElroy played quarterback for the Crimson Tide in 2007-10 and even led Alabama to a national championship in 2010 under future ESPN co-worker Nick Saban.

Despite being in an unbiased position, it’s known McElroy tends to let his colors show when calling his alma mater. It’s obviously common for former players to be in just about every booth nowadays, but ESPN has enough talent to keep alumni from calling massive games for their old teams…
